A Prayer That Changed History
In a moment of deep anguish, Hannah made a vow that would echo through generations:
“Lord Almighty, if You will only look upon Your servant’s misery and remember me… and give me a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life.” — 1 Samuel 1:11
Hannah was barren. It’s likely that Elkanah married Peninnah because of this. Peninnah, who bore sons and daughters, often provoked Hannah—especially during their visits to the temple. But Hannah didn’t retaliate. She wept, she fasted, and most importantly, she turned to the Lord.
Her prayer wasn’t driven by pride, revenge, or personal fulfillment. She didn’t ask for a child to prove a point or to complete her identity. She asked for a child to give back to God.
That’s powerful.
Her selfless plea led to the birth of Samuel—one of the greatest prophets in the Bible. Hannah’s story reminds us that when our desires are aligned with God’s purpose, miracles happen.
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, help us raise godly children who will carry Your love to the next generation. We lift up every couple struggling with infertility—may You remember them and grant their heart’s desire. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
